World Forecast 2007

Forecast for 2007 - the Chinese year of the Yin Fire Pig (or Boar) - 29th January 2007 to the 16th February 2008.

Yin years are more loving, caring and introspective than Yang years, but 2007 is a Yin Fire year, and the Fire element brings courage, optimism, energy and excitement. But the Pig wants harmony - an end to conflict, anger and war.  So pressure will build this year to get foreign troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan, and to stop the civil conflict in Sudan.  The so-called 'surge' in Iraq even now looks to be an outdated concept, and the efforts in Afghanistan seem doomed to failure.

In the last year of the Yin Fire Pig (1947) the world's nations produced the Geneva Conventions - international treaties that sought to regulate war in a more humanitarian way, and that same spirit of co-operation is likely to be replicated this year to bring the horrors of civil strife under a similar regulatory umbrella.  World leaders who maintain the ideology born of a Yang metal Dragon year (2000/2001) will become increasingly unpopular.

In a Pig year people tend to spend too much money, sometimes with blatant disregard for sensible economic constraints.  Things may appear to be going well, but in the end a price has to be paid.

The Pig is a hard worker blessed with dogged determination to make money that once accumulated is often spent on his family and friends.  So whilst housing markets will stagnate, industry will power ahead in 2007 making ever greater profit.  As money is made, so it will be spent and the likelihood in 2007 is that many people will spend too much, and live beyond their means.  At the same time we will all be acutely sensitive to the feelings and emotions of others adversary affected by events beyond their control, and want to spend our money in an effort to compensate their anguish.

It will be a good year for religions of all creeds whose congregations will expand as more and more people feel the need for spiritual direction in their lives.  Demand for church weddings with all the trimmings will soar.  But those dogged by religious fervour, and whose birth date numbers also include 1s, 8s and 9s will be tempted to use violent methods to express, and perhaps end their spiritual journey.
